polebear

America's Oil Masterstroke Against China President Trump just executed one of the boldest geopolitical plays in decades. In January, U.S. forces removed socialist dictator Nicolás Maduro from Venezuela and took control of its massive oil fields. In February, American and Israeli strikes hammered Iran, shutting down the Strait of Hormuz and choking off its exports. This was no coincidence. It was a calculated one-two punch to starve China of cheap oil. Before the first strike on Iran, the U.S. redirected nearly a million barrels per day of Venezuelan crude away from Beijing and toward American, European, and Indian refiners. China's slice of Venezuelan exports cratered from over 600,000 barrels daily to just 48,000 in February—a devastating drop. Proceeds now flow through U.S.-approved channels, not to the communists. Then came the hammer on Iran. China had been buying 80 to 90 percent of Iran's oil, around 1.4 million barrels per day, most of it sailing straight through Hormuz. With the strait closed and Iranian facilities under fire, that lifeline is severed. In sixty days, the U.S. cut off roughly two million barrels a day that Beijing counted on. No wonder Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar rushed to Beijing today. China is not playing peacemaker out of kindness. It is desperate for affordable oil to keep its economy from sputtering. The leverage cuts both ways. America needs Chinese rare earth minerals to rebuild thousands of depleted Patriot missiles. China needs the spigot reopened on Venezuelan and Iranian crude. This sets up a raw, high-stakes bargain: rare earths and tech relief for secure oil flows and stability in the Gulf. Trump did not stumble into this. He secured supply lines first, redirected barrels from America's top rival, then launched the campaign that slammed the door on the rest. It is straight out of the energy warfare playbook, but this time America is writing the rules instead of suffering under them like in 1973. Venezuela was the opening move. Iran the middle game. Beijing is the endgame. The molecule binding it all is crude oil, and right now the United States controls the flow. While global prices spike toward $120 a barrel and ripples hit every gas pump, the message is clear: strong American leadership puts adversaries on their heels and forces them to the table on our terms. Weakness invites chaos. Resolve delivers leverage. HT S. PERERA
